do not do this , it does not work , you end up with thousands of little scratches from removing the peanutbutter , paper towel is too rough on the cd, if you have one big scratch your trying to get out ..then do not use this technique!!! if you have small scratches just clean the cd

If your CD, DVD, or BlueRay has very few small, or no scratches, just stick it in the freezer for 30 min. It worked for me!

You could try a mr clean magic eraser and some patience depending on how bad the scratches are just keep wiping from the middle of the cd out
